– Naomi Wolf on Why Porn Turns Men Off the Real Thing — New York Magazine
I like this article because for the first time ever I’m reading a logical argument against pornography, and not one based on religious or other moral preaching.

Wow. I guess that’s slightly better than the Russian government’s solution of just killing them.

“We need your help,” read one of Mr. Goodrich’s letters in July 2006. “A barking dog disturbs our sleep but will not kill us. Secondhand smoke is killing us.”
God this pisses me off. The tiny, tiny bit of secondhand smoke filtering through your apartment door’s crack will NOT kill you, old man; it will annoy you. Please stop using fear to get these kinds of laws passed, as no rational...

Poor Obama staff. Hopefully fixing the way the American government runs will begin at (the White House) home in this case.
Why so many minds think alike - CNN.com →
I’ve known about the sociological experiments mentioned for quite some time, but finally having the hard science backing them is enlightening - and consequential, particularly the part about unanimous juries not being so unanimous after all.

Much can be argued about Bush’s legacy in words, but numbers don’t lie.

I need to read the book he reviews in this article. But this is another example of the need for a divorce from market forces, this time for education.

“Unless and until we Europeans do thus gather our strength, our American, Chinese and Russian “friends” will be richly justified in their contempt.”
A very accurate analysis of what so many EU citizens feel about the lack of unity and action on the part of our government. But then, Timothy Garton Ash is one of my favourite historians - if you’re at all interested in...

Bush Lead During Weakest Economy in Decades -... →
A part of me wants to rub this in the face of everyone I knew who voted for Bush eight and four years ago, when I was telling them pre-emptive “I told you so”s, and knowing that pretty much this would happen. However, first of all I’m not that petty. Second of all, it wouldn’t do any good - the same people still voted for McCain two months ago. And most importantly, this is...

Interesting concept. It would also be interesting to see search engines that only focus on a certain topic, i.e. if you went to a music-specific search engine and typed in “the doors,” you would only get results about the band, and not a door manufacturing company or other unrelated sites like on google. Just a thought…

Perhaps this comment says it best:
“I hate the names our generation is given. “Millenials” is thrown about a lot, for example. Well, here’s my name for the generation that follows the “Greatest”: They’re the “Entitlement” generation.
